Athleticwear for Everywhere but the Gym

Get in Gear

The white sneaker has been going strong for years now, but the new excitement for all things sportif really started with the resort shows—we saw all this great athleticwear done in a chic way, from Louis Vuitton's color-blocked windbreakers to Prada's drawstring-cord bubble dresses.

Windy City

I'm really into the idea of styling anoraks to wear to the office. Try layering one over a T-shirt or a turtleneck—as gamely modeled above by our accessories editor, Christina Holevas—and tuck it into a trouser for a dose of polish. Go for maximum contrast: a bright-colored jacket set against black or another neutral, like gray or white.

Get Packin'

It suddenly feels cool again to carry a hands-free, utilitarian '90s bag. Two of my favorites are this überglossy Louis Vuitton (natch) and the bright, minimalist packs by State, a great NYC-based brand: For every bag purchased, the company gives a school supply-stocked backpack to an American child in need.

Sneak Attack

The secret to making sneakers work for work: Pair them with things that are decidedly nonathletic. Not a dress, necessarily—too Working Girl. Try them with beautiful trousers, either skinny or fuller in the leg. You can even experiment with a longer pant length that spills over the shoe. And don't worry about a little scuff—that's life. You just have to embrace it.
